This is another thing amid the crowd in front of Beringharjo. Everytime visitors come out of the Beringharjo’s entrance door, they may always be greeted by this man – a middle-aged man who works as a pedicab driver – and his fellow pedicab drivers. These people earn for a living on this spot by vending a service to drive Beringharjo visitors to some nearest tourism spots, such as Bakpia factory (Bakpia = a small round cake made from mungbean), Dagadu T-Shirt shop, etc. Each pedicab driver sets his own tariff for a service. Even, it looks like there is a tariff competition among them to capture would-be passengers, so the tariff ranges from Rp 2,000 to Rp 5,000 to get a passenger to a destination. It is really cheap actually, beyond the current normal tariff.  Sometimes, after long-hour vending, some of them look upset for not getting any passenger. However, they keep struggling to vend their driving service to any visitor they encounter at the entrance without caring much about heat, rain, or even a pickpocket “on duty” nearby for they always remember their wife and children who await at home.
